hurricane sandy. he was greeted by governor chris christie. and the two men just continued to work on this partnership that they got going when it comes to recovering from this storm. in fact, they've been doing it before the storm hit. now, these were the sites the president saw as he flew over the jersey coastline. image after image of flooded homes, destroyed boardwalks, and washed out roads dominated the president's trip. on the ground, president obama and governor christie visited relief shelters throughout the area. the governor offered this assessment of the president to storm victims. he means what he says. it's important that he is here. christie had more praise later on. >> we spent a significant afternoon together, surveying the damage up and down the new jersey coastline. we were on marine one together, to be able to show the president that personally, had an opportunity to see it and discuss it at length, and going over to the shelter here, being able to meet with folks and see the president and his concern, the concern all of us have for making sure that things get ba

showing the massive destruction along the new jersey shore. governor chris christie called the impact on his state unthinkable and said it would take months to recover. the storm swept houses from their foundation and left parts of the coast under water. new york city also dealing with devastating floods. the subway remains closed after damage to the system was called the worst in its 108-year history. meanwhile, massive fire in a beachfront neighborhood in queens, new york, destroyed nearly 100 homes overnight and into the morning. firefighters have been blocked from getting to the fire due to the high floodwaters. and as we told you yesterday, a construction crane that collapsed due to high winds remain dang top a 74-floor luxury high rise, thousands were ordered to leave nearby buildings. nearly 8 million homes are still without power today across 20 states. the worst of it is in new york, new jersey and pennsylvania. right now i want to bring in dillon dryer. thank you for joining us. just run through a brief outline of what's going on. give us a sense of the depth and the duratio

chris christie today. while super storm sandy continues on its path of destruction the area northeast of pittsburgh is the latest to get hit. leaving close to million pennsylvania residents without power. joining me on the phone in a fox business exclusive is pennsylvania governor. governor, thanks for coming on. i know you're spending the day in philadelphia and looking at power lines and talking to power line workers. what did you see there? >> we're in philadelphia up in northern bucks county talking to people at a shelter. we've seen a lot of areas without electricity. i've gone out to see some crews working on replacing the electricity. these are crews that came in from as far away as mississippi who came up here to help. there are a couple thousand people working on the lines in pennsylvania. i think our number now is down around 800,000 that were without electricity at this point. melissa: yeah. so how long do you think it will be before you can get power back to those customers? everybody who is sitting in a dark house right now who doesn't have hot water is wondering how many
